eeny Minnie miny mo

According to J.Crew, their Minnie pants is one of their best selling styles due to the flattering fit. I've been noticing a lot of slim, ankle length trousers lately, so I figured I would give these J.Crew Minnie pant in stretch twill in coal, size 00P and 00 (currently sold here) a shot.

Some fun things I noticed: The pants come with a side zip, which I imagine would be costly to alter (if needed). There is a hot-pink piping along the inside of the waistband, which the girly side of me loved. The material is quite stretchy, but I wonder if it will have the same stretched-out problem after a few hours of wear similar to Gap's premium pants.

The regular size felt big all around. There's not much I need to say about it -- pictures are worth a thousand words.

The petite inseam is about 2" shorter, but the fit is noticeably tighter everywhere else. I look like I'm wearing cropped leggings heading off to yoga class! Not attractive to say the least. The waist is the roomiest, but even that is probably doable. I briefly considered getting tall booties so I can wear them with these pants a la BEE @ Atlantic-Pacific (seriously love her style, one of my favorite style bloggers ever), but I don't think I can pull it off.

I think the perfect fit would be somewhere in between these two sizes, both in length and overall fit. What are your thoughts? Have you tried on these pants?

  1. Those photos are the definition of 'between sizes'. If they made a "petite regular", you'd fit in those perfectly! Those pants are adorable though. :)

Theory makes some great, very flattering cropped black pants. I know Theory can be pricey, but I snagged my pair at Marshall's for $80 recently. Worth a look!

  2. I love how the petites fit on you! You're so lucky you're skinny but curvy the best of both worlds! Just the right amount of curves in all the right places hahaha

  3. I think you're right, one is way too tight and the other is way too big and I don't think worth going to the tailor for. I'm so sorry to say but it seems like there's a bit of um, camel toeing in the petite size.
    These pants are a pass.

  4. @Kristen - ha ha, that's me, a petite regular, not fitting in anywhere in particular. I call myself a petite some days and of 'average' height other days :) Thanks for the Marshalls heads up. I'll have to keep that in mind next time I'm out shopping!

@Lisa - Really?! I feel like it would be indecent wearing the petites out in public. I think I just have big hips for my frame. I'd rather have big boobs, but we can't win it all ;)

@b_ra - Don't be sorry for being honest! I need and welcome the honest feedback :) Because now that you brought it up, I see camel toe too *facepalms* hahaha how embarrassing!

  5. Hmmm, neither seem quite right. I agree you'd need something in between. The unfortunate part is that both seem to flatten your tush :(

  6. I had the same issue with the Minnie pants. For me, it's a matter of alterations, I'd have to go up a size in petite so it's not so tight on my legs, but I'd have to get the waist altered. Which wouldn't be my favorite option unless I really loved those pants. =)

  7. I ordered these in the wool in a size 0P which were HUGE (just as on you). I think I'd get them in wool but definitely not the stretch twill material because, as you said, they look like yoga pants!!

  8. Thanks for letting us know how these fit. The petite one is way too tight --- and the regular one is too loose. Ah I guess J.Crew sizing for petite pants are not that great. Seems like you had better luck with Loft pants.

  9. i think the regulars would be doable if you altered the waist?

  10. I'm stunned by how much larger the regulars are... is that typical for US brands, or is J. Crew's sizing just inconsistent? I'm used to UK sizing where the only difference between regular and petite is in the length. Anyway, I agree that an in-between fit would probably be best. The regulars look OK to me, but if the material is stretchy that probably doesn't bode well for something that already feels big.

  11. @SewPetiteGal - hehehe, and here I thought my tush couldn't get any flatter :)

@Stylepint - Yes! I have a feeling the 0P would feel the same way on me as it did on you. But like you said, alterations aren't worth it.

@Aubrey - Have you exchanged them for 00P I'm wondering how the wool ones would look on you. Hmm...

@Jarucha - Yep, should stick to LOFT from now on for pants and, well, everything :)

@Leena - I actually don't love the length of the regulars on me. I feel like it should be a little longer or shorter.

@En Bouton - From my experience, regular sizes are usually a little bit bigger and longer than petite sizing, but J.Crew is much bigger all around. I can wear petites and regulars at LOFT and not notice as much of a difference.

  12. hm, you really are right in-between these two sizes. i would say that if you shrink the regulars in the dryer, maybe it'd fit better?

    cute & little

  13. Am I in the minority in saying I like the petite sizing on you better? I can see you wearing it with flats, wedges or pumps...I can't stand the idea of possibly altering or frying them in hopes that they will fit.

    Hum..major decisions...

  14. I think the length of the oop is super cute...flats or heels would be great with them.

I do see some bunching/wrinkling of the fabric just under your butt...not sure if it is a huge problem.

I prefer the tightness of the oop...shows off your body so nicely! But if the fit makes you uncomfortable, they are a definite no.

  15. I tried those on in store the other day and they were just hideous on me. I was so disappointed because I heard so many good things about the Minnie!

It's so weird that the 00P and the 00 have such different fits. I think the in-between would definitely be best, but I just think they remind me too much of leggings. I still like pants with front zip flys and pockets.

  16. love jcrew! i think the 00p fits better though the 00 has that cute slouch look

  18. Thanks for the comparison photos, Cee. These pants work for SO few people. I agree you are between sizes in these. The crotch on the 00P in these photos looked just as unflattering on you as they do one me...typical for a tight pant with side zip closure!

I really like the bi-stretch wool material, but want these to be either above the ankle or below the ankle length. I also tried on a regular 00, hoping it would be like a long skinny pant, but the baggier crotch and thighs looked so bad. You should give the bi-stretch wool material a try if you see them on sale! I wonder if they'll be more flattering on you than th twill.

  19. Hey Cee! I never did exchange for the 00P, sorry! I think perhaps they were out of the size.

  20. Very strange, I look at the pictures and seems tow different models of pants ... when i read the post i understand the different measure thing...

  21. I think I'm just going to get my pants custom made from now on...where the waist fits, the rest of the pant is way too tight, and where pants fit, the waist can't be kept up without belt gaps (you know, where you cinch the belt so tight, the pant bunches up? so. annoying.). Sometimes, I've had too tight pants stretch in the leg area, though...but I'm not sure if that's something you want to take a chance on or not...

  22. I always have problems with J Crew pants! This design gives me a baggy crotch but looks way too tight on my butt. How is that possible? I always have better luck with Express and Banana.
